What is the Driver Put Phone Away meme?

Updated:

Short answer

It is a video meme from October 2026: a passenger films a minibus driver, who turns round, throws both hands open and shouts at the camera to put the phone away. Many copies and AI remakes followed on TikTok. We could not confirm who posted it first.

Where it came from

Copies of the same cab scene were getting hundreds of thousands of views on TikTok from 17 October 2026. The first post is unconfirmed, so we do not credit an original creator. The shouting is in Russian; the phrase «убери телефон» means put the phone away.

Why it works

Everyone has been filmed by a friend at the worst moment. A fixed minibus cab and one furious turn-round are instantly recognisable, and swapping in a calm friend or a pet makes the contrast funnier.

How people use it

People post it as a prank on friends who are always on their phones. The beats never change: glance, shouting, scolding, back to the road.

Questions people ask

Is it a real driver?

The viral clips show a real cab, but we do not identify anyone. Ours is entirely AI-made from your photo, and it is a prank, not news.

What does the shouting say?

In the viral clips it is Russian, roughly put the phone away, with strong language. Ours has angry shouting with no clear words.

Who posted it first?

We could not confirm that. The earliest widely viewed copies we found are from 17 October 2026.
