What is the Mandem in Disguise AI trend?
Updated:
Short answer
It is a flip: a person smiles, a camera flash fires, and the same person appears in a black balaclava and puffer jacket with a deadpan stare. The line āmandem in disguiseā comes from an older Skepta song. It became a meme again in 2026, and AI versions now use your own photo.
Where it came from
āMandemā is British slang for a bunch of lads. The line āmandem in disguiseā comes from an older Skepta song called āDisguiseā and has been a meme line for years.
How the 2026 wave spread
- 27 September 2026: @blindfoldedbandit posted an anime edit with the line, about 1.9 million views.
- 30 September: @cerify0 posted a lyric clip with about 1.7 million views.
- From 18 October: football fan edits flipped a photo into masked figures in black balaclavas.
- 25 October: how-tos for AI photo templates, such as the one by @luna.ai.visuals, appeared in numbers.
Why it works
The contrast is the joke: a warm smile, one flash, and then a deadpan stare in black. Counts above were read on 27 October 2026 and are not audited.
