What is the Cat Middle Finger AI trend?

Updated:

Short answer

It is a short AI clip format from October 2026: a cat walks up to the camera on its hind legs, looks friendly for a second, raises both front paws with one toe pointing up like a rude hand sign and walks off. TikTok marks the biggest posts as AI-generated.

Example frame: a black-and-white tuxedo cat standing upright on a grey park road, both front paws raised at the camera with one toe pointing up, trees and a bench blurred behind it

Where it came from

The earliest version we found was posted on 1 October 2026: an orange cat on a park road, about 6,100 views. The wave grew from 25 October, when a “so friendly” black-cat post reached about 594,000 views, and the orange-cat walk-up and walk-away we follow was posted on 27 October (about 252,500 views).

A tutorial for a phone template followed on 29 October. We did not check how many people made their own versions, and view counts were not audited.

Why it works

  • The contrast: the sweetest face you know and a very human gesture.
  • It is short and clear: walk up, pause, paws up, walk away.
  • Any cat can star: the joke needs a pet people already love.

Questions people ask

Is it a real cat doing it?

No. The videos are AI-generated; a real cat does not walk on two legs and raise paws on cue.

Is the paw gesture the same as a middle finger?

It copies the look of one: each raised paw has one toe pointing up. The meme name says what it imitates.

Is it only for cats?

A cat is the classic, but a dog photo works too.
