What is the Cutting The Branch trend?

By MimicZip Team · Updated:

Short answer

A photo becomes a handheld riverbank scene: the subject crouches at the end of a branch, chops the part they sit on with a small axe, the branch cracks, and they drop into the water with a big splash. It is a young comedy format on TikTok, from October 2026.

Where it came from

The earliest TikTok we found is @titusmaximus2’s filmed clip of 24 October 2026. The post we follow is @sylvesterto.ca’s cat version of 28 October 2026 (about 500 views, labelled as AI on TikTok).

What happens in the clip

  • 0–4s: You crouch at the end of the branch over the water and chop the part you sit on with a small axe, with steady taps.
  • 4–5s: The branch creaks and cracks. You stop and look down in surprise.
  • 5–6s: The branch snaps and you drop with it, the camera tilting down to follow.
  • 6–8s: A big splash, then you bob up wet and confused, with the broken branch floating beside you.

Why people try it

It looks like a short fail video: a calm river, a thick branch, steady taps and one big splash. The branch and the water are drawn by the AI around your photo.
