What is the Prank Mask AI trend?

Updated:

Short answer

It is a short reveal on a fixed camera. Someone pinches their face, it turns into a wrinkled old one with a shocked look, and they peel an old-face mask off from the chin up to show their own face again. It began as a CapCut template named Prank Mask.

Example frame: a woman in a blue sweater with a deeply wrinkled elderly face and her mouth open in comic shock, one hand near her chin

Where it came from

The effect circulates as a six-second CapCut template named Prank Mask by @Kim Hoa, at about 69,900 uses on the evening of 29 October 2026. It needs one photo.

On 27 October 2026 @shyo890 posted a tutorial at about 316,000 views, labelled by TikTok as AI-generated, and on 29 October a second one at about 28,000. We found no other creators’ versions, and counts were not audited. The demo in the first post shows several different people; we follow the adult peel-off part.

Why people try it

  • It is one gag: a face ages, a mask comes off, you are back.
  • The reaction sells it: the shocked look at the old face is the funniest second.
  • It works on friends: send it to a group chat and watch the replies.

Questions people ask

How long is the reveal?

The template is about 6 seconds. Our full video is 5 seconds, with the same four beats stretched a little.

Is the mask scary?

No. It is a thin rubber mask that comes off clean, and the old face is meant to be funny.

Is it a big trend?

Not yet. We found it on one account and one template, so we do not call it a viral wave.
